I have this pain in my right hand from my palm area to my third finger and it's VERY painful!! I had carpal tunnel surgery done on both hands 5 yrs ago, I am right handed so I use it more. I went to my family doctor, he had xrays & an MRI done on my hand, he said it didn't show any swelling, arthritius or anything unusual. He said I might be getting carpal tunnel back! He suggested I wear a brace for carpal tunnel to bed at night, so I do... but it doesn't seem to helping. The pain seems to be worse. I don't remember this kind of pain when I had carpal tunnel, it was mostly numbness, then painful. My question is....is there a specialist that I should go to for my hand or continue wearing the brace & see what happens...it really hurts bad!!

There are hand specialists within the orthopaedic field (meaning more than likely they did an additional one year fellowship specializing in the hand once they finished their residency). Have you by chance consulted with the surgeon who did your carpal tunnel surgery (he should have been a hand specialist)? Either way...seek him/her out or get a referral from your doc to find a different one (given, of course, that your insurance requires a referral from your primary doc to see a specialist).

Looking for better information than your doctor can give is always going to be somewhat avant garde.

Probably, you need to get a second opinion from a nerve specialist or other doctor.

Sometimes unexplained pain might respond to complete rest. It would be difficult, but not using that arm at all for about 3 days could relieve some irritation. Of course, you might occasionally flex the hand gently to prevent stiffness from setting in.

See a doctor if you think a prescription for pain or swelling might be useful and get a professional opinion before trying any experimental remedies.

Yes there are "Hand Centers" I had Injured a Finger w/ a Tablesaw and I was sent to one. Call the local Hospital (or you're Dr) and see if they know of one..... you might need a referral from you're Dr.

Yes there are surgeons that specialize in treatment of hands.

Also, Physical and Occupational Therapists can be board-certified as hand specialists. Look for CHT after their name on their business card. (Certified Hand Therapist.)

Good luck.
