That article left me unimpressed. Researchers were trying to prove that since horse flies bit dark horses more often than white horses, zebras evolved to be striped. I suppose the smart money would have been on just evolving to be white. The article did point out that the idea of the stripes evolving for background camouflage was wrong, since there is no tall grass where zebras are found. It suggested that perhaps predators could be fooled into not knowing where one zebra began and another ended in the herd, as if that would matter much to the lion! I'm sure he could still pick out the slowest zebra, nonetheless. So apparently we are still left with no answer.
