I cant give you amounts but can throw over a few ideas to think about.

1. the are your neighbour, but how well do you know each other- MAKE SURE YOU HAVE WIPED THE HARD DRIVE PROPERLY OF ANY FINANCIAL AND PERSONAL DETAILS FIRST! Add in any wiping materials you buy into the cost.

2. If you feel you know them well enough, how much do you think they can afford? bear in mind also they may have a degree of pride- so dont approach them with "I dont think you have any money so take it free"

3. Though you may feel its worhless to you, as you have another computer/no need for it, it opbviously must be in good working condition for you to consider selling it on, how much did you pay for is? is the same model still availible and how much is is. Then undercut this price by however much wear and tear it show/has and then also re do the last two questions.

4. Also do bear in mind that as you are neighbours, as you have sold the computer to what sounds like people who dont have a computer (as this is as you say a start up computer), that you may become an on-call service man "Ive been having trouble with the computer, can you help..." "coffee" or "dinner" at your neighbours may never be the sam e again- come to an agreement first but dont forget the use of emotional blsckmale which can undermine even the most defined of agreements.

5. lokk on ebay for a similar model. How much CAN you get.

£50 - If you have all the software licences - then is easily worth that, but unfortunately if your computer is a couple of years old, the hardware will be out of date, so dont expect much for that, 128mb ram isnt allot, and is definately not an apealling point, as it is a 30gb hdd I would guess its about 3-4 years old more towards 4-5 with the 128mb ram so I would expect it to be quite slow - and not a great spec for broadband, I think my package requires 256mb minimum.

So its really only useful for word processing, greneral tasks, and so on - although you may use it for more than that it may struggle.

so I say £50 would be a fare price, with XP costing around £60 at cheapest - the licence makes it worth it, though without the software licences, I would say £20.

What processor does it have on it,
What software do you have on it,
What operating sytem is it running?

All these factors have a effect on the price,
How much did you buy it for and how long have you had it.

One thing to do is check on ebay to see if you can match the
spec of the machine and see how much that machine sells for
and offer your neighbour it for 10/20 $ or £ less

Go to e.g. pcworld's web site and find a pc with roughly the same spec's and then work out your price from that.

Bear in mind that used pc's are dirt cheap, as they're usually outdated.

Don't forget to format the HD before selling. You don't want others to get hold of your personal details.

128mb is pretty small by today's standards, so I'm guessing your PC is probably more than 5 years old, now.

The hardware is probably worth about £25, second-hand.

Make sure you wipe the hard drive before disposal.
You can reinstall Windows afterwards.
