As computer monitors go, they're pretty good.

I wouldn't get smaller than 19" though.

You can get monitors that give a little better pictures, but HP and Dell monitors do have a great advantage in that they are pretty good quality and reliable.

LCD monitors can suffer from lazy or pixels that are dead althogether. I wouldn't touch a cheap LCD with a bargepole as it can be a false economy if just after the 1 year gurantee, the pixels start going black on you. Unfortunately, once you have one, more are likely to follow and you cannot take your eyes of it once you see one!

LCDs also need mini fluorescent tubes in them. They do stop working after a while. Again here a well-known make that is reliable can save you money in the long run.

Everyone has to make their own chioce in the end - I don't have enough money for a 32" widescreen monitor, so rarther than get a bigger monitor, but poorer reliability, I opted for a slightly smaller monitor (19" and in my case Dell).

Cutting edge technology, often pushes the technology to the limits and reliability suffers often because of it. I've recently been talking to a technician and was shocked to find that in his experience, most LCDs run too hot to be reliable. I have never even noticed my Dell getting more than slightly warm. Perhaps another good reason to go with reliability over a slightly better picture?

I suppose it comes down to a straight choice between the best picture available (today), against reliability. Then you have to trade that off against how deep your pockets are. I've played tons of games on this Dell and not noticed any problems. The limits of my gaming seem to be the graphics card, not the monitor for me!

While it is true there are not many manufacturers of large-size LCDs, so even a no-name monitor may contain the same LCD as your more expensive monitor, it is in the quality of all the support electronics that that the difference lies apparently. That is apparently why Dell and HPs barely get warm and last for years, while cheaper one run too hot and fail the technician told me.

I hope this helps a bit?

Good luck with whichever one you go with!

Theyre ok. There not the best but it gets the job done. I have a 19inch widescreen that came with my hp and i play half life on it and it looked great. I recently hooked my computer up to my 42in samsung lcd hdtv and it is AMAZING. But the hp is good, just be sure you get a bigger screen.
