I need something for today..and todya im not going to be able to get out to the store as my car is in for routien maintance.

My cramps are TERRIBLE today. I took birthcontroll about 2 years ago becuase of it and for the past year I have not taken the pill. I just started again this month but it seems as the cramps today are worse than EVER. My doctor said that it would probably be like this until the pill has time to kick in and get in my system.

What can I do, at home, to ease the pain?

I currently have a heating pad on my tummy and I sat in a hot bath for about 2 hours thismorning... of course, sooner or later you've gotta get out of the tub and in a little while I have to get going on some house work - so I will not be able to sit with the heating bad on me.

I have herbal teas...green and chamomeal, peppermint (cant think of the other ones right now)..will any of those help?

I did take alieve .... I have advil - which one would work better?

If there IS something that I can buy at a regular grocery store - stop and shop, walmart - (we dont have many health food stores around where I live, actually - we dont even have 1 ...the closest one is about 20 miles away)... please do share. Just becuase i might not be able to use it right now doesnt mean i cant try it next month, right?

Thanks so much for your answers! I cant express how much pain i am in!!!

Midol is my fave menstrual cramp medication and you can get it ANYWHERE. To ease the pain sans medication I suggest soaking in a warm bath or doing some light yoga. it really can help! Hmmmmm what else... I have heard people recommend herbal teas but have never tried them. Avoid anything with caffeine though. Sometimes when mine get horribly bad I lie down on my back in bed, putting a pillow under the small of my back to keep myself still, and take a nice nap. good luck hun!

Oh you poor thing us women do have it worse off dont we?! I have endometriosis and suffer cramps. You have already done some stuff i would have suggested. Anti inflammatories from the chemist should help, they dont need to be expensive as they are all the same just ask for the cheapest. Ask for the strongest painkillers too that you can take alongside the inflammatories (they do a different job so you can take them together) I actually find gentle exercise helps, maybe an easy walk somewhere in the fresh air, its hard to get going at first but it does ease mine eventually. Stuff the housework honey, your poorly it can wait. If all else fails go back to bed, sleep is a great cure. I hope youre better soon x

The pepermint tea should help a little, I would suggest the next time you can get out buy some of those therma heat patches they work great and they go where you go... My Midwife always suggested that I take ibuprofin because it is an anti- inflammatory, drink lots of water it always helps with any illness, don't do the housework it's not going anywhere you can always do it later when you are feeling better, eat fruits and veggies don't fill up on lots of junk food it will just make you feel bloated and more miserable... Hope you feel better soon

So far you're taking all the right steps. for me i have so many back cramps. it feels like my pelvis is just moving apart really! I know how it is. If you cant use a heating pad when you do house work i know that they have those disposable heating pads at walmart that are for back pain. I use them all the time. They activate once you take them out of the package. They're in a red box i forgot what they're called. I take Midol or motrin. Really there's not much you can do other than that. Its a woman's curse i know. just try not to stress out, dont drink any caffeine and just rest as much as possible

Aleve is definitely better than Advil for this pain since Advil thins the blood & will just make you bleed more. I am on the same boat as you today but I had to get up & go to work so I grabbed a portable heating pad. Its from Playtex & I bought them at Wal-Mart... I dunno if they make them anymore because I bought like 10 boxes a year ago so thats the only reason i have any left. well they come in 3 per pack and all you do is peel the sticky back off and place them over your panties... its stays warm & releaves pain for 12 hours! Its amazing & I recommend searching for them.

Good Luck! ;-)

I also get very painful cramps. 3 Advil and 2 Tylenol then every 4 hours 2 Advil and 2 Tylenol. This is the only thing that would help the pain. My Dr had me take this when I had my appendicitis taken out, for my cramps, and after I had my baby girl. Definitely check with you doctor though.

God bless you deary, I feel for you. I went through that when I was younger. I'm in my 50's now and I celebrated when I found out I was in menopause. My 16 year old daughter is now having the same probs. I just took her to the Doc yesterday for that very thing. Looks like you have tried just about everything you can for now-the chamomile tea may help some, go ahead and try it too! My daughter is going to have to be on the pill too. It really does help. I will say a prayer for you, hope you feel better really soon.
P.S. Listen to some soothing music and try to relax, being tense makes the pain worse.

This could be because of muscle fatigue or dehydration. Try exercising all parts of your body. It also sometimes is due to disuse atrophy. Try out some home remedies. You can also look for information in the web that give you home remedies. I found this website very useful. http://aches.in/cramps.html

Take an old soada bottle and fill it with warm water and lay it on your stomach or get a heated blanket and put it on your stomach.
Hope this helped.
