If all she was using was the hand held doppler, yes.
YES it is normal at that gestational age. After 20 weeks it wouldnt be normal.
The baby at that age is just about the same size as the placenta, and often they will turn their bellies towards that mass and their heart beat is blocked by it. Its quiet common. If they still cant find it in a couple weeks they will order an ultrasound.
I would suggest to your sister to go ahead and call the midwife and insist on one now. Then she can avoid the next couple weeks of mental anguish wondering whats going on.

It is sometime possible not to hear the baby's heart eat till you are further along. They will usually do and ultrasound if they can't find it I had my first ultra sound done at 11 weeks and they seen the heartbeat. I am not sure if a midwife is the best option for your sister.

I haven't experienced the same thing, but at 12 weeks, the doctor could not find my daughter's heartbeat either. I was SO scared, but he then just did an ultrasound, whree we clearlly saw the baby and the little heart fluttering away. I'm not familiar with midwives, but if possible, see if your sister can request an ultrasound.

Sorry approximately your loss. No, that's genuinely no longer the fish oil or EPA. to boot, as you reported the child became into measuring 12 week, so it surpassed some weeks in the past. the main elementary concern around this week (between 10 weeks and 13 weeks) are themes around the placenta. The placenta takes over production of hormones and offering nutrition to the child around this time. Any concern with the placenta could reason the miscarriage. different reason may well be low progesterone - the placenta did no longer took over in time to offer this hormone (yet this could have led to bleeding lots formerly). there are a number of different reasons as nicely, yet those have been the two that we got here upon that could have utilized to our miscarriage at 12 weeks. back sorry approximately your loss.

The baby still has a lot of room to swim around and hide from the Doppler. If they couldn't find the heart beat after 20-22 weeks then she should get worried.

They have always found my babies heartbeat. If I was your sister I would demand an u/s like now, our to come back tomorrow to see if they can find it, not wait for weeks. I would go mad trying to make sure my baby is OK. Can she feel the baby move? If so then the baby is fine, if she cant feel him or her yet, I would make the doctors do something to ease my mind!!! Best wishes to her and I hope all goes well!!!!
