you look african? sounds really sexy.
Dont be too mad at the brothers. They've been conditioned. Even thier conditioning has been conditioned.
I personally prefer sisters with natural hair. It is a sign of strength. Maybe that strength is the very reason some guys are hestitant to approach you now.

I agree with Lish (and $0.02!)! I went natural about a year ago and one of the first things I noticed was how much less guys were willing to approach me.
But the other thing I noticed was how many more "Excuse me, I'm [........]. I wanted to come over and introduce myself"'s rather than "Saaaaaaaaay lil' mama, come back here! Lemme holla at chu!"'s :)
The quality of guy was POLAR opposite. And I think that's because to wear your natural hair shows a certain strength that isn't characteristic of very many Black women anymore-- and many Black men are intimidated by that. But to be fair, natural hair just may not appeal to some men, irregardless of the strength!
You keep doin' what you do girl. Black hair in it's God-given state is BEAUTIFUL!

I went natural 2 years ago and now have an afro that I love! I got negative comments when I cut it off and every time my reply was thanks! Folks looked at me crazy like I didn't hear what they said! I tell them that I love my hair so much that I automatically assumed it was a compliment! That usually shuts people up! Also, not as many men approach me now than before, but the quality of man is much better. I project strength and confidence so only confident strong men approach me! Anytime I hear the term 'good hair' I state that healthy hair IS good hair! There is a double standard because folks have been brainwashed. Its not going to change anytime soon, so toughen up and pick it out!

In my opinion, it really doesn't matter how you do your hair. The "accepted" standard of beauty in the US is relaxed hair, according to television, which is where alot of people get their ideas from. Most can't see past a music video to make their own decisions on what is attractive or not. I've worn my hair natural, braided, and straight, and from experience I can say that it's never seemed to matter. As long as a woman keeps herself well groomed, clean, and accentuates her best assets, men seem to like everything. And for those men who make comments, would you really want someone that rude and narrow minded, anyway? We can tend to have a self-hating attitude, and we need to stop it, because it does nothing but hold us back.

Do you know how many bad looks & rediculous comments I received while I was married to my ex ... he's a black man and let me tell you ... black women ( most ) make it a huge deal when other races " steal " all their " good " black men ... I think it's all rubbish & agree with you ... we date the person for who they are and how they treat us ... there's double standards everywhere ... I never had any problems - as I would just ignore them and move on with my business ... you're still young & the boys are just jealous since you're not dating them ... don't worry about your family either ... as long as you're happy they'll come around ... continue being a good person and good things will come to you ... !

Is it really true that they tell you you look african? wow. Im african and proud to be, so i guess that wouldn't be an insult. My hair is chemically treated, but of late im letting it grow and having my natural hair coming out more. I love my hair both natural and treated. Do not care what others say, or what standards they put on things. Just do what makes you happy.

The real question is how do you feel about having natural hair? It really should not matter what others think, what matters is what you think about your natural do. It sounds like you are trying to seek the approval and validation of others. The only approval and validation that you need is from yourself. If you value and approve of yourself fully, you will be amazed on how many men you pull. Having a man attracted to you is how you feel about yourself not what you look like. Also, it takes a lot of courage to express your natural self and I commend you on it.

"Black" is said to mean...evil, bad, and is associated with death, destruction, witchcraft, endless darkness. Is this the black community you are referring to or are you depicting the African American community? There is quite a difference when using a color to describe a people instead of using the proper ethnic description.
If you are not a US citizen then the proper non-racist term would be African Descent which encompasses ALL of African heritage no matter what country they live in.
Don't let people tell you how to wear your hair or dress. You are an adult and those are your choices to make. Not everyone is trying to "hide" from their natural culture.

I like it..the "wash and go" is the best! Let things go naturally, the way they were meant to be, and hell on the rest of the "crowd"!
