Apart from the obvious fuel economy, are they any good, i've read a lot of good reviews but i'd like to hear from owners.

I've had a 2001 330i with 5-speed for about 2 years. I bought it at 73K miles and have amost 90K on it now.

A really great car, I've only had one issue with a cracked coolant tank, but other than that it has been like a new car. I wish the clutch and shifter were a bit better feeling, but that's it. I plan to keep mine for a long time, especially as the new models aren't that appealing to me style-wise.

Enjoy your new ride!

I test drove a 2001 BMW 330xi at CarMax a few months ago and I was irritated by the sloppy shifting because the gears were 1/2 inch to the right of where I expected them to be. I eventually got the hang of finding the right gear when the test drive ended.

If you have sloppy shifting - probably the shifter bushings need to be replaced which is something that doesn't sound too expensive. Just be prepared for expensive servicing but you ought to double the mileage easily via regular maintenance. Good luck.
