Whats the difference between the colours violet and indigo?

Violet is a bluish purple whereas indigo is a purplish blue.

Indigo is a deeper shade - much more dramatic.Violet is like the little flowers that bloom in the spring - almost a pastel. Indigo is rich and vibrant - like the colours in a sunset just before a storm

Indigo is in the blue range. Violet is redder and lighter.
