Has anyone visited Las Vegas recently? My family is taking a trip there in October and we would like to stay somewhere reasonably priced that is also clean and family-friendly. Does such a place exist in Vegas? One of my best friends is getting married at the Mandalay Bay, but staying there is out of the question because rooms are about $300.00 per night. Please help!

I just went to Vegas last month. We stayed in the Orleans. I looked around on the travel sites (expedia.com, travelocity.com ect) and The Orleans was by far the best priced. Its not directly on the strip but is not far off. They provide a free shuttle to two of the main strips that run every 15 mins. There is a bowling alley, movie theatre, main theatre, several restaurants and a Kids zone with arcade, as well as a main Casino. For me and my fiance to go it was $232 a person for 4 nights and that included air round trip. They also have a very nice pool. The rooms are very very large and much nicer than most basic hotel rooms I have stayed in.

I just stayed at South Point Hotel recently. It's a little bit off the strip, but very nice and spacious room. The hotel is more north of Mandalay Bay but not that far away. maybe about 3 miles apart. The price is very reasonable. I stayed there for 3 nights for $89/night. The hotel is pretty new. check out their website www.southpointcasino.com

A couple of options. On North Strip there is the Circus Circus. You could walk across Las Vegas Blvd (The Strip) to the Monorail Convention Center station (Hilton) and ride the monorail to MGM for $3.00 or so (multi-day passes available). On the South Strip diagonally across from the MGM is the Excalibur, which is tied to the Mandalay Bay area with it's own monorail. Circus Circus is more kid friendlier because of the rides but Excalibur is across Tropicana Ave from New York New York with ESPN zone attached and M&M Land across the street. Both would be in the same price point NON CONVENTION, i.e, there is no major meeting going on at the LVCC or Mandalay Bay CC. Check the links below for hotel prices and convention/event schedules. Aside from LVNV being a gambling mecca it is the worlds leading destination for meetings. The 140,000 rooms in Vegas get eaten up quickly during convention season, of which October is right in the middle of one of the bubbles.

As a few people have recommended, the Orleans is affordable but not on the strip. Their shuttle brings you to the Barbary coast on the strip so it's not really that bad.
If you have a rental car it's great!
Another affordable option would be the Stratosphere. They are at the north end of the strip and it's best to take a bus/taxi/car from there to the strip. This being the case, their prices are lower than other strip hotels.
Other options include 'Terribles' (it's not really terrible, that's just the name), or try the downtown hotels -- Lady Luck, Four queens, Main Street Station, Fitzgeralds. There's an express bus from downtown all the way up the strip. Downtown "freemont street experience" is great for the whole family.
Good luck and have fun!

Hi there. The most family-friendly hotel/casino is Circus Circus but its far from clean. I would suggest either the Excalibur or Monte Carlo. Maybe even the Mirage.
As far as room prices....Google "Las Vegas Hotels" and a bunch of discount websites will come up. You can do much better than $300 a night. I wish I could think of the websites but as I suggested GOOGLE those words.

If you want family friendly and clean, consider The Excalibur. I stayed there many years ago. It wasn't good for me, since I wasn't looking for family friendly, but the rooms are clean and I believe they have been renovated recently. It's VERY family oriented there...tons of stuff for kids, plus it's on the strip, which is a plus, and your close to Mandalay bay.

Go to the Orleans. It is only a 1 mile city bus ride from the strip (you can connect to the Mandalay Bay shuttle there). It's clean, kid-friendly (bowling alley, child care, arcade), good food (great oyster bar) and is very reasonable on price.

The Comfort Inn. It has a pool and it is across from Hard Rock Cafe which is a great clean place for you to go to after the kids go to sleep! Comfort Inn has a free shuttle bus to MGM upon request. MGM is not too far from Mandalay Bay.

Yes, the Comfort Inn (see first link). The South Point is a better hotel though (second link)
