I'm hoping someone can help me out. I have a 2000 protege with a major leak. I have removed the carpet and plastics from the trunk to follow the dirt trail to search for the leak. There was an accumalation of water in the spare tire and tool kit area. The carpet on the floor in the back seat passenger side is soaking wet and when you fold down the back seat the very base of it is also soaking wet. The dirt trail starts here.

It appears that there is no water seeping down into the car i.e. from the back windshield or tail lights or trunk lid. I believe that it is coming up from a possible rush hole in the wheel well. The location of the hole is not visable from the trunk so I am thinking it is located just beyond site under the back seat.

My question is how do I find this hole? Can I locate it by taking off the tire and looking at the wheel well? Does the back seat have to come out? Is there any sealant or undercoating that can be applied to the wheel well to seal holes?
