Im 15, and I think it is ok to stay up until 3:30 in the morning to talk with friends. You see, I have the week off. Anyway, my mother says it is not normal and that I am insane (Which is really hurtful, mind you.) Is there any evidence proving to the contrary of her statement? Or... Not... Whatever works. :)

You are not insane but you really dont want to do that. A teenage body needs 10 hours of sleep to properly function. You are going to have problems if you are staying up until 3:30 in the morning, because your body is going to start thinking that 3:30 in the morning is your new bed time. It's gonna be difficult for you to get back to school when you arent falling asleep until 3:30 in the morning and you need to be at school at 7:00.

If it's for a short while it shouldn't be a big deal however, once you get back to the schedule, it's going to take your body a while to adjust.
To get on your mother's good side I suggest you do something around the house that would please her (housework, make a meal, do laundry, take out the garbage etc.). A little help goes a long way and it's apparent that you have enough time to do this. It would make her day and would save you from a lot of unnecessary arguments or hurtful words .

It's normal for some teens to wish to stay up so late, but it is not healthy. A growing body requires to be fed, exercised and needs its rest to grow healthy. If you are sleeping most of the day you are missing out on a lot you could be doing with your friends during the daytime. What's so important that you have to be up on the phone all night for. Your friends are most likely hearing it from their parents too, even though they may say otherwise.
Your body needs a schedule to remain content and you have thrown this schedule off. I am sure your mom would like to see you more that she does too. Our children are only with us for a short time, we want to spend what time we have with them, not apart.

A lot of teens stay up until the wee hours of the morning, but it's not healthy. You should start working on getting a good sleep schedule, go to bed earlier and get up earlier. Because I bet you go to sleep at that time, but then get up late in the afternoon...Your sleepin your life away. LIsten to your momma. I am sure she didn't mean insane in a meanful way.

Your mom may think that taking in the early hours of the morning any time you have a holiday from school is a precursor to doing things in the early hours of the morning. She also may wonder what other parents think of this. Perhaps they disapprove, too, but you are talking to friends who are hiding the fact from their parents. Tell her to ask the other parents of the kids you talk to. And don't take this personally. She's mainly concerned for your safety and health.

It's normal that you want to but it's not healthy or smart to do. You will end up just having a real bad time readjusting to normal hours once school starts. You should not be throwing off your body like this.
