only the unknown. Sometimes, I walk around the house with my eyes closed...just to experience what it's like to be blind. I can usually keep it up for 40 -50 seconds.....but I always get scared......not of anything in particular....just the darkness...and the fact that I cannot see anything. On a creepy line......I always imagine there is someone about to jump out on me when I open the front door...especially if the porch light has burnt out....I always fling back the bedsheets to make sure there are no spiders there before I get into bed.

I'm absolutely terrified of the dark and I don't even know why. I've never been afraid of anything other than someone I love getting hurt but the dark scares me to the point where I almost need a night light some nights. I think it's just the fact that I tend to be very imaginative and so I create situations, like people being in my room despite my door never even opening.

I used to be just like you! Except for the pocket knife thing, that's abit far.. I'm 16 now, but the year before I was pretty scared and I used to use the tv as my light. Do you sleep with the door closed? I don't know about you but I CANNOT sleep with it open. I don't think what you have is permanent, by any means, right now I sleep with no lights on, I guess the fear of the dark slowly disappears with age. I like to drown out sound with my fan, still do to this day, and earlier on I used to listen to music through my headphones. It would also help to cut down on the scary movies. Couldn't sleep in my own room when I saw jeepers creepers! Basically, what I suggest is drowning out sound (but not in ways to disturb other people) and yeah, you should keep a light on for awhile. Maybe not the whole room light, but enough light so that if you got nervous, you could scan the room so that you'll feel better to see nothing is there. If your computer is in your room, you could leave that on (Don't let it overheat though) It's pretty luminous, and my computers power button is a dark blue, so it used to be a good night light. I don't think you should worry about this being a fear that stays with you for a long time, because I was absolutely terrified of the dark, but now I'm very comfortable walking around in the dark (As long as my Dad is sleeping in his room..)

I'm not really afraid of dark, I love the nights and I hate the days. The nights are the most lucid part of my life... In my college years, I used to crawl through cages, real cages... you know how dark they are... I was never afraid (well, not alone, but with friends). And I usually mock the horror movies, I simply can't remember one that frightened me. The only things that frigthen me are my nightmares, I haven't had one lately, but there were times when I used to dream scary things, it's on my personal blog, somewhere... (too much to write). What they taught me? Is that I have a twisted mind and a lot of imagination. And also they taught me something about people in my life, I had some intuitions about them in my dreams, things that I wouldn't have let my conscience... think about.

After watching The Ring late one night I went to sleep on the lounge-chair and awoke, and the TV in the dark looked like it was glowing when it was off. I could nearly see for a second the lady crawling. You know it can not be real but when you are half asleep it can be pretty scary.

Being afraid of the dark is all one big government conspirousy. They want you to be afraid that something is watching you while you sleep or that a monster may be under your bed. Most of us brush it off as an overactive imagination. But some of us know that Uncle Sam is ALWAYS watching. And some of us believe that he even has an army of super-spying monsters that DO watch us while we sleep. I know it sounds spooky, but it's true, and it always happens when its dark...

I know I'm going to get hassled for this one, but demons make me afraid of the dark sometimes. I have seen them, and they are all too real.
