Many 3rd World nations sit atop vast reserves of oil, metals, mineral deposits, gems and other resources. The native populations are a perfect source of cheap labor. Sounds like a dream come true, right? Well, not always:
Unfortunately, many obstacles are in place to prevent the efficient exploitation of these resources. International do-gooder organizations often interfere. Burdensome regulations are frequently imposed on industry. Loopholes are routinely and unceremoniously closed. Some local government officials extort exhorbiant pay-offs.
What are some ways we can circumvent these obstacles?

I think that it could best be accomplished by opening a wal-mart on every corner in europe and forcing the EU to spend all of their socialist dollars on cheaper goods and services, destabilizing the Euro and the backbone of the UN. If we then open Starbucks on every other streetcorner we can put the European coffee houses out of business. The Asian market will soon crumble because they are dependent on the Europeans for support and all of their third world countries will turn to the US for answers and be willing to fight radical Islam. We then should attack Iran to eliminate their WMD capabilities and destabilize the mid-east even further. draining their resources and forcing them to sell oil cheaper to supply their military complex. After that the Oil prices will come down and America will be able to set whatever price it wants. The final piece of the puzzle is to force multiple Africans into cruel civil wars over abundant resources like diamonds to keep the price artificially elevated and the workers poor.
It is all simple economics and the first step is to destroy the socialists, who would redistribute the wealth, rather than keep it here like it was meant to be!

hi, No and in case you purchase a operating laptop or computer by to a stereo you're also procuring this stuff from exploited third international workers. If this stuff were made the following you would pay nicely over 10k on your computer or perhaps extra for plasma television's etc; no getting remote from it i'm afraid. Cheers, Michael Kelly

The best, and most efficient ways to access resources is to gain common ground with the locals. Put into place educational programs and personel to show them how to do it right, and receive the most for their effort. Allow them to take and play a major role in the operation. The resources do belong to the locals, so our receipt of the goods, should reflect well upon them. Their economies, infrastructures, security, and general quality of life should improve with a minimum impact upon their environment. We want these people to be our friends, in the future, so, a proper, well thought out program aimed at empowering them while giving us what we want, makes the most sense.
Ooooo! Thumbs down! Okay, wise guy. If you're going to support a capitalist system which feeds one of the largest consumer markets in the world, the alternative to what I have posted above is to simply take it, and rob those people, as we did in Venezuela and other states! Frickin' jerk!
At least my proposal makes everyone a winner, by putting power into the hands of those we deal with! And, I can say I actually listened to what it was Chavez needed from us. They want and need the respect of us to allow them a major choice in how the operation is run, without decreasing the proffitability to us, and yet, sliding some economy to them. What's wrong with that? I'll say it in one word: Nothing.

There's two sides to this coin. Is it exploitation to help an underdeveloped country build the infrastructure needed to mine its resources? Is it exploitation to help 3rd world countries get a tax base to educate their young and build hospitals.
We cannot control what governments of 3rd world countries do with the wealth they earn from any commerce with the USA. It is unfortunate that in most cases greed wins over the hearts of 3rd world officials, who squander the wealth earned by the sweat of their people.

NAFTA is the worst form of exploitation. Very terrible deal that makes the poor into near slaves, and the rich richer.

Are you serious???? What makes you think we have the right to extract the natural wealth of any damn country we please? If, say, abundant oil fields were to be discovered beneath Minnesota, do you think it would be okay for Canada to come down and bleed them dry without any regard for the people of the land? You would probably be there with your gun. I say, let the people who live on the land fight for their wealth. They should keep what is theirs and do with it what they will. For god sakes, we already have NAFTA, WTO, the World Bank and the IMF. How much more do you want to exploit people who are already destitute? Do you have a soul?
Edit: Thanks Rubylady!
