They like to do that with people around.. I usually pay P20 for a tricycle ride but some drivers want more like P25 or P30 which is too much... don't think they are taking advantage on just americans, they do on most filipinos too...

not all drivers are. you have to outsmart them this time. so next time you get off a tricycle, give them the exact amount P10 only and if they complain or tell you that it's P25 or P40, tell them it's only ten pesos and that you've been riding tricycles for a long time now. be assertive, not aggressive ok? if they still argue with you just say "that's enough" then leave, they'll not gonna say anything anymore after that.

Sorry but got to be a little crude with you.....you know the fare is nothing compared to what you pay in the US of A, they make a living, you are not rich like you claimed but whats that spare change?

Once you go back to the USa, you probably gonna discard all your loose peros and notes into one forgotten corner anyway.

i am not rich too....but make a point to tip any taxi drivers/tricycle drivers a little extra just to make their day. Sometimes...a little something goes a long way, do not judge them and count yourself lucky you dont have to be one of them.

Learn to love your own people like how the foreigners do.

Gamepan_extre actually gave a good answer here. Some are jerks, some are just guys trying to make a living. I've also had taxi drivers that are illiterate, and ones who have had uni degrees from other countries and speak several languages.

Be above it, but if you are on a budget - best have exact change! That makes life easier!!!

Regardless of your ethnicity, they do that. Don't put discrimination on your own self, it will only make things worse. I have encountered drivers who are like that, you just gotta be assertive and tell them that you know how much the real fare is. But in fairness, I have also encountered drivers who are kind and honest. They wouldn't even care if your pay is short of a peso, and sometimes I hear them invite friends for free lifts. People are the same everywhere, there are good and bad.

Well... the best and simplest way to do is give him the exact amount. Many trike drivers tend to just accept what you gave them as long as it is not below the minimum. Now, if they argue with you then tell them the real amount of fare and you can even report them to the Barangay officials. Beat that!

Well they really thought americans are rich and just taking advantage, yet there still some drivers that's honest enough so i suggest, just give them the exact fare and if they complain tell them that you know the fare rate.

If the extra PHP 20 (0.40 cents) you pay upsets you so much, why don't you:

- learn how to haggle the price down to a more "reasonable" level, or
- just take a hike by walking the distance....

...instead of whining here?

PS - and yes practically all Americans are richER than most FIlipinos. That's a fact...so pay up amboy.

Did you really have to ask this question? You should know. If anyone should know the answer, it should be you. Do the right thing, and be glad that you had the opportunity to spend time in America.
