Who is the new king at the end of "King Lear"?

I was told that the power is divided between Albany and Edgar but I am confused.

It has been a while since I read this but I do not think it is addressed in the play.

In England it generally would have gone to a male descendant as at that period in our history women were still being maltraeted for the concept of original sin.

Edgar is the rightful heir & assumes his place at the end of the play.
