Besides the fact that we use a base 10 numeral system and have 10 fingers is there anything else special about the number that has led us to base so many things around it.

It is highly possibly that we use the 10-base system because we use our 10 fingers to count things so when (5000-10000 years ago) started writing down numbers and evolve the mathematics science the 10-base system worked just fine.

Now, since we learn the 10-base system at school, it is the easiest thing to do to use it everywhere as is this particulary system that we easily understand. Of course programmers use and understand the binary system (ie 101(2)=5(10)) and the 16-base system (ie 101(16)=257(10)) but still it is easier (especially for large numbers (ie over 5 digits)) to understand the meaning of 10010100101 if it is 10-base rather in any other base.

There isn't any magical thing about 10, it is just been used for milleniums and it's easy for a kid to learn (because of the 10 fingers)
