I would have to say that most people including The Pres and Vice would be better off to have listened to Colin Powell. Other than that, even if you don't like them, the office of the Commander-In-Chief still has a tremendous amount of power..

People are influenced by them because they are user friendly, i think. They appear on TV, the medium of the masses, provide people with a fake sense of security, say what the average person wants to hear, provide easy answers and so on. When an aeverage household contains 3 or 4 tv sets and not one library people do not have the means to do a little research of their own and question things and eventually come up with their own personal opinion.

Because they are too lazy to do any research on their own. Instead they relied on the media to spoon feed them with lies.
