So many of the so called free software will identify the cause of the problems, in my case, 400, but must collect $37.00 to get rid of them. Is this on the level? I just want a good "free" software that will get rid of these. I don't want to erase my photos, but I don't care about anything else. When the scan asks if you want to get rid of items, how do I know I am not just erasing photos, and how do I know it is telling me the truth?

Thank you all so much. I ran a bunch of the ones that were given before, so the scans are requested from me. My husband ran some and said one was a Trojan, but I think he said it got rid of it. I am thinking I might need another firewall as well. What do you think?

A Trojan is neither a Worm or a Virus. It is a seperate form of malware that downloads Worms, viruses, spyware, adware etc. on your computer.

This is the program you need to use to remove Trojans from your computer. It is the best general Trojan removal program available. I recommend you do the procedure for proper and complete removal.

Download and Update Ewido (now called the AVG Antispyware). Do not run:

http://www.ewido.net/en/download/

TEMPORARILY SHOW HIDDEN FILES AND FOLDERS.

1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.

2. Click Appearance and Themes, and then click Folder Options.

3. On the View tab, under Hidden files and folders, click "Show hidden files and folders", and clear(uncheck) the "Hide protected operating system files" check box.

IMPORTANT: Files are hidden by Windows for a very good reason. It is not wise to experiment with these files. Unfortunately, to successfully remove modern spyware we must turn this protection off temporarily. Please turn the protection back on when you have finished cleaning your system.

EMPTY INTERNET EXPLORER BROWSER CACHE:

1. On the Internet Explorer Tools menu, click Internet Options.

2. On the General tab, in the Temporary Internet Files section, click the Delete Files button. Select the Delete all offline content check box in the confirmation dialogue box that appears, click OK. Click OK again.

RESTART IN SAFE MODE:

To do this you need to hold down or repeatedly tap the F8 key while the computer is booting (when the computer is displaying a black screen with white text). When the boot menu appears, use your keyboard arrows to select "Safe Mode."

Safe Mode can look quite ugly. The color may look bad, and all of your desktop icons will be very large. This is normal.

START THE SCAN WITH YOUR PROGRAM(S).

When the scan and removal are completed REBOOT COMPUTER. This will restart you in normal mode.

RESET HIDDEN FILES AND FOLDERS.

The RESTORE POINTS may be infected with the Malware and cannot be used. Delete the old one(s) and make a new one.

CLEAR OLD RESTORE POINT(S). HERE'S HOW:

1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.

2. Click Performance and Maintenance, click System, and then click on the System Restore tab.

3. Select the Turn Off System Restore check box, click Apply, then restart your computer.

4. Return to the System Restore Tab and turn System Restore back on.

TO SET A NEW RESTORE POINT:

1. Click the Start button.

2. Point to Programs, then navigate to Accessories, then System Tools, then click System Restore.

3. Choose Create a restore point, and then click Next.

4. In the Restore point description box, type a name for your restore point, and then click Next.

5. Click OK.

NOTE: If you are using Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) and are unable to access the Internet after removing Malware, there is a command that may fix the problem. It works by resetting the winsock catalogue. Click on Start, then Run and type CMD in the box. Click OK. Type "netsh winsock reset" (no quotes)into the DOS window that appears.

Norton. Many people think other stuff is better becuase Norton takes much longer to scan. The reason for this is because It SCANS every single file on your computer. Ill explain more in depth after i explained about something else. There is no other way. you are ****** bigtime when u try to download the new Anti Spyware stuff the Virus's may stop it from happening Many people thinkMcAfee and other "Anti spyware crap work better then Norton because it runs faster do you know the reason for this ? its becuase it only scans small amount of files then what it sez it is doing. People think free "Anti spyware" programs are better because when they scan no Cookies or virus show up,and they think the the protection is better but its not.ill explain Virus are now being designed to bypass McAfee and AVG because they have such a weak defense system. This is because when the computer has a crap firewall u an get pass it with ease and once u are past that firewall the scanner recognizes it as a normal file u have accepted. Well thats it . Im only explain very brief and short but i could write a SA on it for you if i needed to . Norton is a must buy for you. I noticed earlier that all the youtube movies saying i have a virus on my computer didnt have norton take a look Norton360

First of all if you're getting unsolicited scans and then being told you have a virus but you need to spend money to get rid of it...you have malware. You may or may not have a virus.

You need to load three programs.

AVG
Spybot Search & Destroy
Adaware

All of these can be downloaded by going to www.download.com

Once you've installed them, you need to update the definitions and run each one individually.

I would start with Adaware, then run Spybot, then run AVG for virus detection.

If you think you have a worm virus, you must turn off the system restore before running the anti-virus program. Otherwise Windows will keep restoriing the infected file.

To turn off system restore, right click my computer, click on properties, click on system restore. Put a check mark in the box that says "turn off system restore."

Once you have run AVG and delted the virus, reboot. Go through the same process above to turn system restore back on.

You should be good to go. The important thing is to keep these programs updated and run them often if you're on the internet a lot.

Good luck!
