God help us when we rule solely on the basis of dollars and sense.

When climbers and hikers go in, they often lose access to updated weather reports. Most of those who do climbs in winter are well conditioned and equipped, so if conditions worsen, they can survive. I don't think people in this category should bear any charges, they are reminding us of the rewards in pushing the physical boundaries of what it means to be human.

The group of people that head out without the ten essentials, not having checked weather, inexperienced, etc.-- they should have to pay some restitution or do community service, working on trails, cleaning up litter, etc.

I've got a friend who has done dangerous climbs and got a first hand lesson on the damage that can be done when weather changes. He was cooking dinner when conditions worsened and before he could make it to the tent he'd suffered damage to his face, particularly the lower lip. He recovered, but it was a sobering story.

The thrill, the rush, the competition. Then the ability to take 2 of your friends to the tomb with you, or get lost and have your friends and family worry to death...or of course be the lead story on the 6 o'clock news.

why do ppl jump out of perfectly good planes

for the thrill , for the sheer enhancement of life that you did something only a very few have done

and how about all the billions of dollars spent on vol. fire depts

some things are priceless and that's why we have taxes

if it was not for taxes my small town would have NO fire dept
it would not have the trained ppl to help others in a time of need

I agree and they should be jailed as well. They do that when people go over Niagara Falls as a stunt. There's a difference between a hobby and stupidity.
