The 01 London code was introduced in 1966 and was abolished in May 1990. Does anyone think that its abolition was a stupid idea?

Fewer people then had telephone lines. Today things have changed drastically, almost every body has a telephone line or mobile or both. New manageble code numbers are needed to accommodate all. The new system offers such possibilities without too much complications.

What counts is not the 01, but workable and easy codes to accommodate all.

All the best!/

It wasn't done for the sake of it! The old system wasn't robust enough, even with the new system new prefixes have had to be created as London continues to grow. Even if it was possible Why should it be re-instated? Its been 17 years... get over it!
