From the first weblink: 'The tacky, wacky '80s, baby! Get ready for stripes, leg warmers, a rainbow of jelly bracelet colors and a whole lot more.' (Lots of other 80's fashion info on this site). The second site is more general info about the 80's, eg., haircuts, people, etc. (Madonna, Michael Jackson, Adam Ant, Bananarama, Human League, MC Hammer, etc). Quote: 'The 80s was the decade of excess. Everything was bigger, and everyone wanted more more more! More was better....wasn't it? Shoulder pads were de riguer for both men and women, the more accessories the better. And hair; well, again BIG was IT! .........' Have fun!

Wear a large man's shirt (you could dye a white one a bright colour - I used to!) have it nicely pressed, put shoulder pads in it. Wear a really wide belt sitting on your waist but slouched at the front and the shirt baggied over it slightly. You can either fasten the shirt at the neck and put a large diamante brooch there, or have it open necked with large plastic bead necklace. the sleeves should be turned up a couple of times. Wear this shirt with black tight leggings and high heeled stilettoes, preferably the same colour as the shirt. This is authentic 80s lol I did it! Instead of black leggings you can use men long johns, left white or dyed (we did that too!), turn these up a little at the ankle and wear with baseball boots (the ones the come up your ankle with the little rubber circle on the ankle bone). You should have bare legs with these and the leggings, and a little fake tan on the ankles there, its authentic, lol. You can do the spiky and backcombed hair if your hair is shortish, or just all back combed and full if longer, maybe crimped. A bright coloured scarf can be twisted then put in the hair as a hair band. Glitter hairspray was popular then too, just for a shimmer, not plastered all over the hair!
Make up should be paleish foundation, quite dark, stark blusher just under the cheekbones, lots of eyeshadow and black eyeliner, and metallic or bright fuschia pink lipstick. You can use blue eyeliner or mascara if you must... but really that was ALWAYS naff, just cos princess Di wore it didn't make it cool!!
If wearing pencil skirts, make sure they are either very mini or else below the knee. Please do not make the weird mistake of wearing legwarmers with a skirt, NOBODY did that in the 80s!! They were worn over tight jeans or leggings, and scrunched down slightly.
Whatever you all decide to wear, I hope you have a great night out, and thankyou for this little trip down my fashion memory lane! :)

Wearing Huge Tall Spikey Hair.
Possibly chanting the 80's mantra ... Near a tree by a river there was a hole in the ground, where an old man of Arran goes around and around ...
Unless of course you prefered the Ska revival, Green Bomber Jacket and Dr Martins approach .... Trying not to think when, the lunch-time bell will ring again ...
Wasnt that the time those "Hypercolour" T-shirts that changed colour to shout to everyone just how sweaty you REALLY were came out too ?

Well there was big hair - lots of hairspray and perms. Coloured ribbons in hair. Rolled up blazer sleeves. Flourescent socks. Those kind of suede brown knee high boots - they're in again too. Denim was big - denim shirts and jackets. Heavy blusher making the cheek bones defined. Shoulder pads. Converse All Star baseball boots. Fingerless gloves!!! errm, Flourescent string like bangles. Ripped Bros style denim jeans. Rubbish sony walkman style headphones - with the spongey ear bits... A keyboard that hangs around your neck (now that might be going a bit too far). Pork pie "Madness" style hats. Bootlace ties. WALLABIES! Remember them??? those horrid suede shoe type things! BIG hoop earrings... if in doubt Google "Image search" for 80's fashion or summat. Have a good night!
Yeah, look at Bananarama - that was a good suggestion above!

there's always cindy lauper, boy george? lol my favorite cartoon was jem and the holigrams as a kid, that would be soo kool..if u dont know who they are, Jem kind of reminds me of Barbie..she lived a double life as a rockstar and a scientist's daughter..i cant remember! other girl bands like the Go-Go's, Bananarama and Bangles..u might be able to try that. off the shoulder shirts were made popular by that girl in the movie Flashdance, but u said u wanted to not go with the obvious. funny but alot of the trends nowadays were from the 80's. so good luck!

Belinda Carlisle, Samantha Fox, Debbie Gibson, Tiffany, Lita Ford, the Bangles, Tina Turner all circa 1986 should cover it.
Look at screenshots from the movie Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Great examples there.
Double socks in two colors, teased hair, headbands, short jackets, tight acid-washed jeans, bleached hair, high-tops sneakers, multiple bangles, dangly earrings, denim jackets and that's all I can remember.

Molly Ringwald in Pretty in Pink or anything for that matter, or watch the Breakfast Club for ideas. Choose Life t-shirts, lace fingerless gloves, high heels and socks is a good look too.
