To look at the ram and to pass a commit, for that my friend you must be a computer guru, well experienced, the chips are very hard to be identified as the are working or spoiled, even if the computer reconigze the ram they are faulty at time, i have to many cases were the ram was faluty or spoiled even the computer was working normally and some of the applications were giving errors that there is less memory, just to find that the ram was spoiled and not fully used.
so my frien d sorry to say the only best way is to look at the properties or use any software to check them, i ususlly use norton utilities to check the ram if it pass the memory check it ok.

All the answers are correct. while on Windows 98,2000 or Xp u can go to the properties of "My computer" by right clicking on it but if u want to see it before going to Operating System then whenever u start ur PC u can see that "Press Del for setup" or "Press F2 for setup" by pressing this u can go to bios and there u can see ur whole computer specification i.e Hard disk space, CD drive, Floopy, Fan speed, Processor speed and RAM too.
Thanks

Can't really tell that way unless they are burnt because they work on smoke, and once you let the smoke out they don't work.
