At my Local Sainsburys Petrol station, they have a vacuum where you can select a fragrance when cleaning. One was the new car smell

I'd agree with you, those sprays are pretty disgusting & nothing like what they claim to be.
Personally, I give it a good clean now & then and use a very light spray of febreeze on one of the mats. That seems to do the trick without being overpowering.

New cars do not smell like they did when leather upholstery was used, today's cars seem to smell of plastic, but you can buy a "magic tree" freshener which is "New car fragrents" so maybe go for that!!

Was gonna suggest the sprays but if they do not do it for you, how about a tin of glue and all those other nasty chemicals in the upholstery, left open to evaporate in the car

Bargoed is correct. Auto Zone, Napa, and other car parts stores have aerosol "new car" spray.

If you treat the car to a professional valet, that should do the trick. Expensive but worth it!

Febreeze smells nicer than Diesel, I keep my fave aroma in a bottle in the dash, and squirt it on my piglet air freshener whenever I get in.
( probably too much information for you..........)
