Isn't the answer a human? As a baby we crawl on all fours, then we walk on two legs, and towards the end of our lives (if we are lucky) we walk with the assistants of a cane (three legs).

It's man, of course... first we crawl as an infant, then we walk in our youth and adulthood, and finally we walk with the aid of a cane in old age :-)
