I have been chosen by cats, ravens, crows (one of which greeted me this morning as I was getting out of my car) and deer. You do not choose your totems/familiars, they choose you. I love each for their spirit and individual gifts, but the ravens & crows are the most fun with their wicked sense of humor.

Impossible to study animal mythology because animals don't have myths. However, you could study animals in mythology because they were included in the myths of certain civilizations.

I have a variety of totems. Spiders, turkey vultures, cranes, crows, they all mean something to me in different ways. I did not choose them, however. They chose me.
Specificly the turkey vulture. I have finally come to terms with it, but who in their right mind would choose a turkey vulture?
