Agatha Chrisitie dissapeared for a short period during the 1920's. When found the disappearance was never fully explained.
Do you think she suffered from a bout of amnesia, or can it be put down to a publicity stunt to boost the sales of her books ? Perhaps you think there is another explaination.

Agatha Christie's disappearance was dreamed up by newspaper editors wanting to increase their circulation.

Christie had suffered several emotional upset at the time. Her parent had died and her husband turn round and said he was leaving her. She went away to recover. But the idea that she disappeared is a fiction - people knew where she was and visited her, including her publisher.

I stayed at The Swan Hotel in Harrogate recently and they have a plaque outside, saying that Agatha Christie stayed there during her 10 day disappearance. It is a wonderful hotel, if you enjoy the heat. We had to ask for 2 fans in the room cos the heating wouldn't turn off! Maybe Christie liked the wonderful Harrogate Baths which are within walking distance, and Betty's Tea Room. I guess she was just having a break.

There was a programme done on this subject a few years back now, it was thought that due to her break up with her husband at the time,it may of be a type of amnesia, she always maintained that she couldn't remember what happened to her,and didn't talk about it in public.

At a distance of 60 years, and without any further contemporary evidence coming to light, we shall never know. And does it really matter - we remember her for her books, not a weird thing that happened to her when she was young.

Yes, I have heard this story, it could have been a publicity stunt, it could have been depression after her marriage broke up, it could even have been getting some new ideas for a new novel, but we will never probably know.

I think she may have gone through a massively stressful time, and just wanted some peace.

She is buried in a little village called Cholsey in Oxfordshire, England.
