The marbles I am thinking about using are green in color and about the size of a quarter.

I am with Darla they would be expensive and eventually wash in the ground but they can be used. I would put landscape cloth down and mix them in with another rock that would match what you want. They would be beautiful scattered about.

Being a silicate they will somewhat acidify where used, so depending on what your plant wants and soil type that could be good. Broken auto safety glass is interesting too.

But your question was about mulching - I assume to shade the ground, conserve moisture. It should work some. I think weeding would be annoying with so many small items. Maybe you can think of something larger instead.

It would take a bunch of them. I guess if you put something--plastic or something--under them so they don't just disappear down into the ground they might work although they wouldn't really have the same effect as mulch as far as protecting and holding moisture.

Sure they can...Expensive though...Remember, they will sink into the earth eventually...
