I would say it has something to do with female equality. Equal opportunity.

Take a builder, dirty jeans and builders bum. Then we have Charlie Dimmok that does the same- she's like a bloke, but admired by men (some i'm sure).

Take the office environment, lawyers, More women wear touser suits and no heels these days - looking like blokes. The police clothing is almost identical between men and women.

So really its not that hard for a women to look more like a man. I also think women often seen for there sexiness, just want to be seen for what inside, not how big their t!ts are. So many wear baggy mens jeans and baggy tops leaving the rest to your imagination

Let's face it, men are not nearly as sexually desireable as women, and we don't look better in tight clothes that show our curves do we?

So when a man dressess in womens clothing he is denying his masculinity and wants to be a woman, but when a women is wearing mens clothing they are happy being a woman, but just don't want all the attention.

see ya

I've never thought about that! But male to female crossdressing seems like a bigger jump, women don't look bad in mens clothes whereas men who crossdress put on make up and wear the most terrible clothes. It's as if they feel they have to go over the top to look like a woman, they over do their make up and then wear hideously bright skirts and tops...women do wear trousers you know!

Ive often wondered the same thing myself,

women in mens suits look really sexy but a man in a dress just doesn't do it somehow,
although i think beckham did look good in a sarong!
i think it should be the norm that people can wear exactly what they want regardless of gender but it will take a few brave men to get the message across,
i also don't understand the guys who get off on wearing women's clothes i mean i don't get excited when i put a pair of jeans on so there is a difference one way is normal just wearing clothes that appeal to you and the other a sexual perversion...
which one are you?

Well i would'nt say that female to male crossdressing is accepted, it appears to me it is the contrary. In recent times it has become increasingly socially acceptable for a man to crossdress, or be effeminate, or camp, but when a woman wears men's clothes (specififcally men's, or 'butch' clothes, not unisex) then she is frowned upon. Just my opinion. Although i think a lot of clothes are viewed as unisex anyway, shirts, trousers, jackets...

Oh & btw i personally think drag queens look gorgeous!

Over the past 20 to 30 years it has become commonplace for women to wear almost anything they desire without having to be concerned about being ridiculed for doing so. A lot of this has evolved under the guise of 'fashion', and it is not unusual at all to find women wearing clothes that were exclusively male attire just a few years ago. Everything from three piece suits and tuxedos, all the way to ragged jeans and flannel shirts have become fashionable for the females in our society and this is in large part because they've fought for, and WON the right to wear whatever they so desire.

In an earlier answer to this question 'Wragster' said, "So when a man dressess in women's clothing he is denying his masculinity and wants to be a woman, but when women is wearing men's clothing they are happy being a woman, but just don't want all the attention."

I disagree with this statement. Being a crossdresser myself, I have no desire to BE a woman, nor do I deny my masculinity in any way. Crossdressing for most men is a form of relaxation and simply a method by which to escape from the stress and reality of everyday life for short periods of time. Society doesn't understand it, and since it is common knowledge that people fear that which they don't understand, they compensate for their fear by making fun and criticizing male to female crossdressers. Oddly enough, crossdressing is being recognized more and more my the scientific and medical communities as being something that one is born with, and yet there has been very little research as to what the root causes might be. Theories are abundant as to what MIGHT be the causes, but since crossdressing isn't a danger or health hazzard to the participant or to those around him, it's a low priority subject to be researched.

In summary, female to male crossdressing isn't really viewed as crossdressing (even though in a technical sense it actually IS) since feminine fashion has evolved to a point where almost anything is OK for today's women to wear as long as it isn't obscene. On the other side of the fence, a male who wants to wear what is decidedly feminine is all too often wrongly accused as being gay, bi-sexual, perverted, etc, when in actuality he is totally heterosexual as are 90% of all crossdressers. There appears to be an unwritten "double standard" between what's acceptable in regards to what's OK for each gender to wear and it is most definitely biased against the male of the species.

Personally i wouldn't say it was... remember Lilly savage a few years ago on TV, theres Paul in Emerdale..i'd say it has a great amount of acceptance upon it..

Something people should remember though is that, everything id frowned upon by some and not by others... my ex thinks i'm ugly and fat and my other ex thinks i'm beautiful, Everyone has an opinion and there open to express it to a certain extent.

A person that wants to crossdres, wear make up, be gay, leasbian or whatever, hould feel the right to and they have the legal and personal right too.

What ever floats your boat!!!

sweetheart if you ever find the answer to this question let me know because I have never understood it. A woman can walk down the street wearing whatever she wants but a man wearing a skirt would be arrested. Just a little thing but did you know that if a crossdresser goes into a female toilet he could be prosecuted for being there to view and sexually arrass women, but if he goes into a male toilet he can be prosecuted for being a male prostitute. Its stupid but it all seems to be against the male of the species. Luckily I changed to fem and got birth cert. to prove it.

Because some people are very shallow and narrow minded and are very blinkered when it comes to anything that they feel is slightly different to the "norm", but then what is "the norm"?.

I think male to female crossdressing is great. It is all about people expressing themselves in a way that makes them feel comfortable. My boyfriend enjoys cross dressing and he is great at it, although he actually enjoys me forcing him to do it more than anything. I actually get dead jelouse as he sometimes looks better in womens clothes than I do. It is great to have a guy to go shopping with who shares an interest in clothes, make up etc. There is nothing sleazy about it, it is something we both enjoy in the privacy of our home. He is not a pervert or weird or gay (not that there is anything wrong with being gay). It is just another way of expressing ones sexual feelings.

this year i have learned a few new things, aint education grand.
a few new friends i have made, are men that dress as women and damn they look good. wishes that lesbians dressed that good.
some actually take true pride in there appearance and are quite convincing as to be mistaken as women.
"drag queens" as they are called are very professional and very
dedicated to dress as good as they can. and yes sometimes they overdo it, but they are entertainers that win titles and get invitations from other clubs to entertain.
i know from experience cause im a part time escort for one.
my friend dresses as classy and respectful, so thats why im always in a 3 piece suit when i work.
it shouldnt matter how they dress, it should matter to get to know
them cause they are pretty interesting and unique.
since i had helped fix my friends car, every chance he gets he tries to fix me up with lesbians cause he knows all the lesbians in the bar. and yes having drag queens as friends that the shortest is 6'4 is a good thing.
all are unique in there own special way, drag queens and crossdressers alike. they are people too.

That's because our society is sexist and masculinist and women are still considered to be inferior to men and weak.

A man dressing like a woman is therefore degrading himself, whereas a woman dressing like a man becomes a stronger person.

If it were not so, then how else could one explain why it is acceptable for a woman to wear trousers but not for a man to wear a skirt?
