I once read a restaurant review that referenced a book on the different historical lifestyles and cultures of countries that grew wheat (less food but more spare time) and rice (more food less time). Ring any bells?

C. Kayak gave the same book I was going to give. It is a very great Pulitzer Prize winning book and discusses other things as well.
