going up a flight of stairs, u have to use enough energy to equal gravity and your weigh. while going down a flight of stairs u just use enough energy to lift your leg up and you let gravity do the rest

Going up a flight of stairs: against the gravity. Going down: with the gravity. Thus the gravitational force tires us more while going up. Ask Mr. Isaac Newton and his apple for more... ;)

the gravity pulls us down as we go up

Because you're moving something against gravity and having to overcome it; when you're walking downstairs, you're simply having to control the "fall" of your body weight, rather than having to use enough energy to overcome the pull of gravity.

When we raise anything against the force of gravity, work is done, additional to that of movement alone, not so when descending stairs.
