I think it was an honest goal to be honest...

Just had a look at the morning papers and yes, it is there!
It's about time attacking teams, when denied good opportunities by cynical fouls around the box, were given an advantage. Why should the cheating defenders get five minutes to line up the wall? As far as I am concerned, the defenders should get back 10 yards immediately, and the attacking team should be able to take the kick when they, not the defenders, are ready.

I hope UEFA crack down on Lille and all French clubs.

Their team (under the full support of their manager) threatening to walk off after the referee had given his decison is a disgrace and is full of anti-sportmanship. Its bullying too. Referee has a hard enough job without a full group of men going in to a sulk cause they have conceded a goal.

Also UEFA / EU should do something about stadiums in the EU to bring them up to good and secure health and safety standards. However saying that I just realized that the French don't even have any Health and Safety Executive branch (or equivilent). UK Gov spends £1 billion p.a on H&SE... in France you take your chances... hit your head on low sign on pavement.. get trapped in a building with no fire escape... your own fault matey.

And yes ofc it was a goal.

Maybe a better question would be how would Fergie have reacted if it would have been Lille scoring that goal and beating United at Old Trafford?

If the referee had blown the whistle before the kick was taken or waved the play ahead, then yes. If not, then no. Simple as that.
The Lille goal should have stood. Vidic went down like a little girl.

The ref doesn't have to blow the whistle for a free kick to be taken, so the goal is fine.

It was fine, the ref moved away, they had a wall, the ref doesn't need to blow the whistle if Man Utd asked him not to.

you can even see Giggs on the replays talking to the ref about it, good goal

Allowed. There is NO rule about the other team having to be fully ready. Typical French reaction - to go on strike!

It's what the ref thinks that matters!! Lille should know better than to turn their backs on Ferguson and diving Ryan.. I wont forget the diving welsh oap cheated us.

I thought it was a good goal and i'm sure had Lille thought of it first they wouldn't be grumbling. Very petty of the Manager to bring them off pitch.

Made it entertaining to watch though.

if ronaldinho did it in the world cup we would be talking about, how quick thinking it was, how stupid were the other team, what a brilliant goal, but no its MANCHESTER UNITED, should it be allowed, did the ref blow, should the match be replayed, its typical controversy that follows the greatest football club in the world.
