Is it just for when there has been a death in the family?

I love them and think there is never a time when lillies are inappropriate, I'd take them over roses any day.

Be careful who you send them to though, if they are a cat owner to may be wiser to choose a different flower as the pollen is poisonous to cats. Deadly.

White lillies are used at funerals so it's best not to send white lillies to a friend who has a terminal illness! However, you can send lillies at any other time really because they are lovely and most people don't associate them with funerals if they are in a mixed bouquet.

I think the answer is traditionally yes. But it's the same as with any other tradition isn't it. Over time the tradition becomes a memory, and what was designed to be used for one occasion now covers a multitude of sins.

It's like the wedding ring. People frequently wear a ring on that finger even though not married.

A bit of a funny question really.

I know it really sucks becuase I really like lillies as well.

Maybe it's time we all bucked the trend?

In art lillies are a symbol of purity, generally associated with the Virgin Mary. You decide when they are appropriate!

Sadly they are connected with death usually to decorate the coffin its an old custom but a shame because they are a beautiful flower to have the connection with bereavement and rather avoided for a vase display

i love lillies of any colour for any occasion but yes white lillies are genrally associated with death

a lot of people use Arrum lillies for a wedding bouquet but i just like flowers no matter what type
