The best way is documenting where the money is spent, then later on when you review what you have documented you will sure discover that there are areas where you spent money more than needed or even money spent for totally un-needed thing .
generally speaking we spend 10% more than we earn , that's why we stay in debt.

Start a money saving policy. That way you know youre saving money for the future and cant touch it until it matures. Get Dr. Phils books to help you become more wise at prioritising whats financially important and not. Have a budget that lists all the necessities and save the rest. Go on at least one shopping spree in 3 months so that you can se the fruit of your labor and enjoy it.

I've gone through this. Just knowing that you have the responsibility for the survival of the two of you. You need to control yourself, you need (bill money, gas, *groceries*). Those I think are your three main objectives to keep up with. Try leaving your bank/credit card at home. Only carry about $10 with you at a time, for gas.

I learned the hard way when I saw the $100 I had left from my paycheck was grocery money for my boyfriend and I. I care so much about his well being above my own that it basically kept me from spending a dime. It all comes down to what you consider wasteful spending, or just wanting to save.

What I learned to do was find a specific amount that I was able to use each week, for say $80. And then I would arrange different things I needed for that month..(week)..nails, hair, clothing, accessories, make-up, etc. This is a fairly decent amount. Of course from time to time, you will need a bit more, and it's normal, but don't make it a habit to exceed that amount you have set to yourself.
