Is the planned withdrawal of UK forces as a result of a job well done, or is it really just a smokescreen to help the political fortunes of the Labour Party in the UK, and a US administration who are desperate to put a good spin on an Iraq story on the run up to the 2008 elections.

It's too little, too late. Only 1500? That would still leave thousands out there.
Tony is partly doing it too to try and scupper anti war demonstrations this weekend around the country. As someone who has opposed the invasion from day one I can tell he is trying to silence dissent in the country. His empire is falling around him and he can't do much right at the mo. He can fiddle all he wants, but his version of Rome is still burning.

A bit of both. The troops have done a good job but equally, the Government desperately needs to respond to the claims that UK forces are over-stretched. Unfortunately, although we hear that the Iraqi forces are now in control in Basra and the south, that situation is unlikely to remain and too quick a withdrawal will probably result in more unrest and troops having to be sent back. That is if we ever get to the stage of pulling them out rather than just talking about it.

Whether we were right to go to Iraq only time will tell but if we withdraw now there will be an utter bloodbath beyond imagination.

I can only hope that over the years we will root out all the troublemakers to ensure peace. I have absolutely no conception why different factions wish to slaughter each other in the name of their faith.

It isn't withdrawal - it is just a minor drawdown for political reasons - they need to wind up Iraq and move the troops to Afghanistan to bolster their efforts there.

The place they didn't finish before they got onto the Iraq debacle.

He purely did it now by using fact he found out his political destiny could be affected. He used Rev. Wright to get into politics, and replaced into chummy with the great corrupt team in Chicago. I wager Rev. Wright could enlighten us on Obama. he's probable haveing a solid snort that whitey voted for Obama.
