If you will be at Mack & Woodward during the day, it is well worth the expense to park in an off-street lot. Detroit parking tickets cost a fortune. You should be fine (safe) in that area during the day it is near the Medical Center and the Red Cross, so there will be lots of activity.
If you are looking for a good spot for lunch, go a few blocks north on Woodward and have lunch at Union Street (great food).
If you are driving in from Roseville, chances are you will want to take I-94 West to I-375 South, take the Mack Ave exit off of I-375. Go about 4 blocks West and you will be at Woodward. If you are driving at off peak (non rush hour) times, your travel time should be about 25 minutes max.

If you'll be staying in Roseville, you'll be taking I-94 straight into Detroit, so there's no worries there, you'll bypass all the neighborhoods. You'll probably NOT want to get off the Mack exit...take the freeway straight to Jefferson and take that SOUTH to Woodward. You'll stay in the business district that way. Parking anywhere in the business district is fine.

Well any area around Roseville is fine. I would visit www.michigan.org and you can explore the cities and hotspots. Woodward/Mack area is a fine area and since you will not be in Deetroit at night, you have nothing to worry about. If you are too worried, just go to your appointment in Detroit, and immediatley go back.....Woodward is a fine street, if you dont stray from Woodward, you will be fine.

Well my best advice when parking would be to hide everything! (i know oner person who got his window busted out and they took two empty pop cans and some loose change). The best spots to park are company parking (fox theater, etc.) lots and not the public or grass lots. the second best spot is in parking garages that are lice looking and have security guards.
Usually if you stay in well populated and in downtown you should be fine.
Also don't sit around in your car. Get in and leave.
Detroit has the same problem as many big towns that often causes problems like this.

it quite is not the frightening place that persons make it out to be. Cass around Wayne State college has some large little golf equipment and eating places. based once you pass, there's a element referred to as "dally in the alley" on and around Cass. it quite is an arts and music pageant. in case you get of undertaking, check out Heidelberg highway (daylight hours so which you are going to locate it, not given which you would be killed) - it quite is a residing paintings installation via Tyree Guyton. it quite is understood-frightening and beautiful. The DIA (as replaced into reported via yet another) is the 5th best museum in the U. S. and homestead to a very good volume of artwork, originals from each and every of the masters. The shape of the Fischer construction should not be ignored while you're into that. large BBQ, beer and bourbon at Slows eating place, Jazz at Baker's Keyboard residing room (oldest present jazz club in the U. S.) and a huge variety of community music on the golf equipment. The opera house is swinging into opera season.... alongside with yet another poster (sorry, won't be in a position to keep in mind the call) - all the icky issues that have got here approximately to me have got here approximately in the 'burbs - homestead broken into, robbed at gunpoint... None of this in the city itself.

I found some important data here, Do check:
http://www.city-data.com/forum/detroit/9815-what-fun-places-live.html
You can ask Qs there from locals who will guide you.
It says:
No city has public transportation in MI - we are the car capital after all
Royal Oak or Ferndale fulfills all the above, Royal Oak is the better of the two but more pricey, Ferndale is the cheaper little sister. Warren is just a piece of suburbia, with a lot of older folks or families, Royal Oak and Ferndale has the singles, and downtowns. No "great" bike trails, but you can find them in nearby cities and most of Royal Oak will have sidewalks to ride on.
The other cities ,Warren, you listed are not the greatest, safest places to be, with exception of Madison Hts but its a small non-descript city. Downtown Royal Oak (south of 11 mile, north of 696) has one of the few concentrated downtowns in our urban sprawl that is metro Detroit.

Well if you do go to Detroit, I suggest buying a bullet proof vest and pack up the guns and bring a bullet proof car because those blacks can get quite rhiled up! Joking!
I sugest you just get a rental so if your tires get stolen or if the car gets broken into its not your car! Then the rental company can't sue you because it wasn't your fault.
