Fantastic - give DCI Hunt a spin off! Great as a sort of cultish retro show, but having the intrigue about Sam's situation just gives it an extra edge.

I have no idea who the guy on the phone is...I just hope like many programs that have a "mystery" element that we are not disappointed with a weak ending to the series..I hope everything is explained and we don't all think "oh is that it?"
The spin off Ashes to Ashes is set in the 80's an is supposed to have a British "Miami Vice" feel to it. The only two people I have heard that are in it are Gene Hunt and the WPC (sorry can't remember her name). Also it is supposed to be set in London and not Manchester.
The show is shown at 9pm on Tuesdays on BBC1 (postponed next week because of football) and the following weeks episode is shown at 10pm on Tuesdays on BBC4.

Absolutely brilliant. Fabulous concept, something different, good storylines, excellent actors (rather than ex soap "stars").
It just goes to prove that we do have the talent to produce something worth watching if only the TV companies will give people a chance instead of going for the cheap mind numbing reality shows.
Ha that's the problem, this show makes you think and the goverment can't have the voters doing something as revolutionary as thinking - now I know why reality TV rules.

Its a brilliant show!! So glad its back on. Can't believe I missed last night's episode :((( - anyone know if its repeated anywhere before next week (we have cable tv...)? I think the guy on the phone is meant to be a doctor from Tyler's future life, trying to talk to him whilst he's in the coma. I love DCI Gene Hunt - what a character!!

Life on Mars is absolutely brilliant television, wish they would put it on every night, love it, Gene Hunt is one funny guy, wish I knew who the guy was on the phone, my theory last night was MI5 doing some experiment on him, laughable but thinking all sorts to try and work it out, it has a huge twist at the end though so guess we are just going to have to wait and see what happens.

Love that show and I was born in1981, so there is no regression for me but for some reason that show is addictive and I HATE the 70's! Cheesy clothes, horrid wallpaper, bad hair! DCI Hunt is classic, that guy should have a spin off!

I think it might be his dad or the guy from deal or no deal on the phone.
But is good so far.
I heard they are doing an 80's version called ashes to ashes....
