Simply because others do not conform to their norms of behaviour. Because most people believe they are right, then it stands to reason that if others are different, they must be wrong and therefore inferior.
The truth of course is that there is no such thing as right or wrong, only different perceptions. We are therefore all superior when seen from our own standpoint, and inferior when seen from others'. I suppose that makes everyone equal.

But seriously, it's a way of building yourself up. If you look down on others, then it stands to reason that you are better than the person you are looking down upon. We all do it, it's just a matter of scale. It helps us validate ourselves, and some people need that validation more than others.
If you look down on everybody, then that makes you a snob, which for some unaccountable reason is more acceptable than looking down on a race, and being a racist.

i cant stand people like that coz we all have our good points and everyone should be equally valued. what makes the popel who think they are better ACTUALLY better...nothing. Some people may be better educated or have more money or something but it doesnt imporve your person does it!!
