I've been using Griffin's iTrip (the Dock one, not one of the Auto versions) with my 5G Video for over half a year with no problems. That is, I've been using it at work, not in my car. I'd say above all you should avoid using one that comes incorporated into a cigarette lighter power adapter, as the FM transmitter is the more expensive part, but the power adapter is the one that's more likely to need replacement (I'm already on my second car adapter because my previous one died). You should also avoid using an FM transmitter in your car if you have another easy option (line-in jack is preferred, followed by a USB port, a cassette adapter, patching into RCA jacks on the back of the stereo unit, and lastly the FM transmitter).
There are three basic options for FM transmitters. There are dock/charging models that will only work in your car. There are dock models that will run off your iPod's battery (but, like Griffin's model, should provide you with some sort of charging port so you can use them without running the battery down). And there are battery-powered models that will plug into the headphone jack. If you're not using the latter, I'd highly advise downloading MP3Gain so you can adjust the line-levels on all of your music, as anything that runs off the dock connector bypasses the volume control on the iPod, and the volume level of music tracks can vary greatly from one CD to the next (in particular, CDs that were originally released on vinyl over a decade ago are often very quiet compared to modern albums). With a battery-powered model that uses the headphone jack, they take the adjusted volume level just like headphones, but you'll have to keep a steady supply of batteries ready (for this reason alone, I'd suggest sticking with the regular Griffin iTrip and getting a USB A/Mini B cable and USB power adapter to run it with).

Belkin makes good transmitters. I have one for my Nano.
If you are planning to use this in a car, however, I would say search for alternatives. All FM transmitters lower the quality of the audio they transmit. A direct connection would be ideal, but if you have no problem with it, I would say just get a Belkin transmitter (or a better one if you can find it).
