It basically means there's another computer on the network that already has the IP address you're trying to assign yours.

Go to Control Panel, then Network Connections, right click on Local Area Connection and then Properties

In the popup window double click on TCP/IP Settings and you'll be able to change the address. If you're not sure about this sort of thing get your system administrator to deal with it

I agree with funky b funky, but make sure you only change the last segment of the IP address so if your address currently is 172.22.23.66 then just the last segment to something like 172.22.23.70.

But instead of doing that I would just release and renew the IP and your network protocol should assign you with a unique address, to do this click on Sart | Run then type cmd and hit enter. Now in the dos prompt type ipconfig/release this should release the ip back to zero on all segments. Now type in ipconfig/renew this should assign you with a new IP which does not have a conflict.

Of course your network is connect via a switch, blade or hub and they give out a certain amount of IP addresses, maybe the network has maxed out on the IP's it can give. If so shut down another machine on the network and run the release renew command,

a bit cheeky i know coz you will get an ip and not the one you shut down.

which skill what it says, there is an IP conflict with yet another pc. Which basically skill that 2 computers are having an identical IP handle. because of the fact of that, you wont have the skill to hook up with information superhighway on the two pc. flow to regulate Panel and double click on community Connection ideal click on your "nearby section Connection" and choose residences. Scroll right down to "information superhighway Protocol (TCP/IP)", click as quickly as and click residences button. below the "Use following IP handle" make valuable that the IP shown are actually not an identical because of the fact the different pc.

Hi,

It means that the IP you are using is already given to another machine on the same network...

Two machines cannot have the same Ip on the network.

Cheers
Sumit.

Most of the time it is a mistake so just close and try again.

some times the settings are not proper for your IP so ceck them.

If there are more than ne computer on the line then there may be a conflict between computers.

If you are on a managed LAN/WAN speak to the administrator something isn't right with the internal addressing or the NAT.

If your machine is just one computer by itself in the big wide world then take a look at all the directories to see if their has been any hi-jacking going on. If you see any 'new' users please feel free to email me i'll let you know how to get rid of them.
