I love the third man too! It's the first book I read in different language!(I am Greek) But I don't know any similar to this! Sorry!

There are several films by the same director (Carol Reed) that are well worth watching. In particular, The Fallen Idol and Our Man in Havana, both based on Graham Greene novels. Odd Man Out is his best, I think, although it's not Greene, and I can't think offhand how similar it is to The Third Man.

The Good American staring Michael Caine kinda has the same atmosphere (but Third Man is still better film...); it's based on a Graham Greene novel.

Have you seen 'Twelve Angry Men' with Henry Fonda?
Tag Line: Life Is In Their Hands -- Death Is On Their Minds!
Set in just one room, it tells the tale of 12 jurors on a Murder case.
It's very Tense and Dark and Henry Fonda is Brilliant. If you liked 'The Third Man' you would love this.
No Zither though I'm afraid!

I agree, an excellent film. That zither playing has been etched in my memory for decades!
'Casablanca' comes close, providing good characters, good script, memorable acting and a really great story line.
