My friend has the new Sky broadband package with 6MB downstream. The internet runs very well and fast for him. But when he uses Bitlord to download torrents he is only getting an average of 5kbps? He should be expecting around 2000kbps. Any ideas for this slow download speed. (he's done speedtests and the 6MB downstream is fine)

He is getting low speed even when there is 50 seeders online?

couple of factors:
If he opens ports (not really recommended) then his download speeds will be quicker. This is equivalent to removing sections of your firewall so things can get through.

If his computer is only getting the info from one person then 5k is pretty reasonable, the more people the merrier.

The fastest downloads i've ever seen on a torrent is about 250kbps, certainly never seen 2Mbps!

you'll have to take the limit off of your upload speed first then maybe the server will allow you a bit more speed. but you also need to pay attention to how many people are seeding to get good d/l speeds. i doubt you'll ever see 400 kbps though.

it depends how many seeds he is downloading off. the more there is the faster it is .
