every poll and scientific data that i have ever seen says that a large majority of christians vote republican.. if you debate this i ask that you inform me otherwise

but what is it about the republican party that draws christians to the polls, in many cases, so much so that they can determine elections?

republicans are, generally, about big business, which profits off of low wages to its employees (like rome did to the jews, which jesus was, remember pontius pilate?).. republican states are the only states which still have the death penalty (i would state a reference to the bible, but i think we all know and understand what jesus' view would have been).. republicans are the reason that we went to an un-just war in iraq, although the democrats allowed it to happen and have done nothing since to end it ("turn the other cheek" was an extremely strong message of jesus, if not the strongest.. i mean, he did choose to give his life on the cross because of such a belief).. so why?????

i understand that my argument on the war is not fair.. but a large majority of republicans have, and continue to, support the war.. and i do not want this to be a discussion on the war.. that can be an entirely different discussion

i really hope to understand this better because it is something that i cannot wrap my head around.. thank you for all responses

everyone that has responded thus far is entirely correct. i attempted to give a complete argument but allowed the YA space requirements to dictate the depth of it.

i guess that i was hoping that those that took the time to read my question would understand the basic premise of my argument and would respond accordingly..

i wish that YA allowed more space for such discussions, but i understand the demands that such a site requires.

and on the subject of demands, and with saying that i understand the demands of YA, i should have realized the demands i asked of my respondents, and i should have remembered that the same demands put upon me by YA being the questioner are the same demands that YA puts upon the respondents..

thank you all that have responded thus far and i hope that you do not receive me as a dumb-***.. although i imagine that many of you do

The Democratic Party has evolved into a party that supports values that are anti-family and intolerant of Christian values
and beliefs imposing counter culture values instead. A large number of Christian voters view the Republican Party as the safest bet when it comes to issues involving conflict of religion and politics. As far as this being an un-just war, you brought it up. That is your value statement. The Democrats had no problem in the US going to war in Bosnia, Herzegovina, the Balk-lands to get Slovodan Milosevic. Saddam was ten times worse, killing hundreds of thousands or more over a twenty-five year period and his WMD's remain unaccounted for. When Syria and/or Iran begin using them on us, I hope you will be in favor of a military response, since you are obviously against any military action that is proactive.

Our country was founded on a separation of state and religion. Religion should have no bearing on how one votes. That said I also am perplexed by why Christians would vote for so many high profile republicans. People who make a big deal of their "Christianity" voted overwhelmingly for Ronald Reagan ( who never attended church and was known for very unChristian conduct) over Jimmy Carter who was among other things a Bible scholar and Sunday School teach who tried to never miss church.

Whatever your source is, I would love to see it.

As a matter of fact, there are many prominent Democrats who are Christian: Barack Hussein Obama, Hillary Rodham Clinton, John Edwards, Ted Kennedy...ad infinitum.

As to the pro-business, I suggest you read the Federalist Papers and the works of Thomas Jefferson. He wrote much of the Constitution. You confuse pro-business with anti-big-government. They want minimum intrusion by the federal government in internal commerce.

As for the death penalty, again, the Founding Fathers wanted states to decide that for themselves. There are plenty of states that allow things with which I disagree: homosexual marriage, legalized marijuana, illegal aliens to have driver's licenses, etc., but I choose not to live in those states.

As for the "un-just" war. There has never been a time when war was more just. You cannot end the war by capitulation. Unless of course you intend to intimate that America should surrender. That notion, sir, I find expressly repugnant. This is a conflict that will decide, as in 1863, if our nation, so nobly conceived, can long endure.

simple... abortion...

this SOMEHOW... has become the watermark issue that MANY Republicans that I know vote Republican on ALONE...

despite the fact that I don't think it's EVER mentioned in the Bible, every pastor from here to the moon thinks it's murder plain and simple... even though I can't find in the Bible where it talks about the direct issue of abortion... much less to base a whole vote off of...

and even BEYOND THAT, considering the fact that they DON'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT ABORTION... and it's still legal after multiple Republican presidents and congresses... you would think they would catch on to the fact that Republicans aren't doing anything about it?

you can also sprinkle in a little "gay marriage" to top of the entire thing... even though it doesn't make a big deal out of being gay and is clearly no focus (seems to mention it about as much as drinking too much, yet many Christians do that?)

basically, it seems many don't engage their brains and believe their pastors...

how do I know... I grew up in the south and this is how about 75 percent of my family votes...

In current elections abortion and homosexual rights are the biggest issues that cause Christians to vote Republican because the Bible speaks about both.

I put more emphasis on my faith in God than I do in what I have seen in man. We invoke His name in our deepest despair, and thank Him during our highest and most lofty moments. We only mostly forget Him for everything else in between. Classifying one party as being holier than the other are both oxymorons. I know members of both parties who have heartfelt desires to follow the will of God.

You neeed an explanation of the correlation of christians and republicans? Same disease, different vehicle. Lack of applied critical thought.

Most christians vote republican because they haven't realized that Jesus Christ was gay. When they finally wake up you will see more democratic christians.
