there has been a case of sexual abuse in a care home for the elderly i work in which the manager did nothing about & let it carry on for 8 months.when the company found out she was suspended & then resigned.it seems she has got away with being held accountable & i'm furious.should i go public & name & shame her or let her live with her guilt??

i was the 1 who 'whistleblew' & its public as far as the families have been told its all been done by the book now its been brought to the companies' attention.but i feel that the ppl who covered it up in the 1st place have got away with it & i think that everyone needs to know who they are & what sort of ppl they really are.

Hmm tougjie, can or would you handle the critism? Trust me, go public and you will. Im not saying its right whats happened, but the fact that it took a while for something to be done about it will cause furiosities. Leave the place and look for new placement...should it ever happen again, demand something is done straightaway or report it to the police if your supervisor refuses to. It's done and no amount of naming, shamming, and putting yourself and others in bad/awkward circumstances will change it. Try to be at mind that something was eventually done. Thats all you can do. That's all we do with convicted sexual abusers, make the person who commited the crime and anyone with-holding evidence do justice. Thats the sad truth really.

go public. you have to think about if you were in that posotion and one of your loved ones were being mistreated, how would you feel and what would you do. most of the elderly are put in those homes because family either can't afford to take care of them or they just don't want to. someone has to speak up for them. and if the abuser is never punished, then more people will think that its okay to go abuse the elderly just because their having a bad day. its not fair to that person. so i say speak up (discreetly on your part ofcourse), and let someone who cares know what happened. maybe then something will be done about it. good luck!

The question is would you be able to live with the guilt of not reporting the abuse while it was occurring? I think that the next time you know of any abuse happening you report it immediately. Let it go this time but speak up when it matters most.

the question here is do you like your job, because if you go public you can say good bye to it, because when all the family's of the rest of the elderly find out they will take there family members out of it, and then they will sue and you will have no job, but can you live with the fact that this women was there to look after the old people not turn a blind eye when this was going on, so ask your self whats worse of the two - no job or the guilt. i would have to say something you can all ways get anther job.

It seems to be public already. I would think that she is not fit for this kind of work. This is unlawful in many places, for you also for not reporting it if work in California.

You need to realize that your employer is very concerned about their rating and also about law suits. Too bad but true. I have seen computers removed from nursing homes so there is no forensic evidence of malpractice. Pretty gruesome stuff, stand strong.

You MUST go public with this it will happen again! You can save someone from this person before she does it again. If you don't go public can you live with the guilt?

Yes I think so... but you need to tell your boss first and quit your job... otherwise, you'll risk your job ... The victim or victim's family can sue the home... and the home will have the bad name... The home obviously doesn't want this to get out...
