Because most of us had faith that our elected officials, The President & Senate knew what was best for our security & freedom. Unfortunately that trust has been misplaced & we're back forty years in terms of responsible honest governing in this country. ie Vietnam & Nixon.

Most Americans like AlexanderTheShark have an attention span shorter than a flea. They expect everything to happen instantly without any sacrifice. This coupled with the main stream media only reporting the Bad news from Iraq has driven support down. Most Americans do not want us to just completely abandon Iraq.
If the traitor Democrats had any real cohones and believed their own rhetoric they would vote to de fund the war vs. trying to pass meaningless non binding resolutions. Off course they will not do this since the vast majority of Americans do not want this to happen.
The troops want to finish the job. They need our support.

The problems with many Americans is that many Americans too easily believes every lies & crap from their own medias and their president in the first....
People in other countries are much more skeptical and doesn't easily believes anything so quickly as many Americans.
That's also why the support for the war in Iraq was (and still is) extremely low in the UK, Australia - not to mention France or Germany -- people in Germany knows too well how quickly people can be manipulated by a "leader" (from their own past). I am a German national myself and I know what I am talking about. For me, Bush was a liar and also is FoxNews as well.
Greetings from Germany!! :-))

It started with the support because we were told Hussein had wmd, and it was good to get rid of a man who even killed some of his own family, if he thought they were against him in any way. As for why it seems so many are against the war now? It's because of what happened with Viet Nam. We were in that war against communism for so many years, so many troops getting killed, injured, etc., and then to have it end the way it did, and the length of time this war in Iraq is taking, is going on 5 yrs. Now it's mainly the memories of the war in Viet Nam. Take care.

Four years ago--Americans were motivated by the "facts" of "eminant threat" with "WMDs" while still holding major hatreds for Hussein and "whipped up" over 9/11 !!!
Now, people are seeing that all of the original stuff was false---the object of our "personal hatred" Sadaam is dead----and no connections with 9 /11 leaves us with none of the original foundations FOR our support of this thing !!
Add to this the outright profiteering that we are seeing within this blood soaked zone---and the ever changing design for the end point in all of this---has people seeing this as the quicksand pit that it was described to Bush that it would be IF HE CHOSE TO TAKE IT DOWN !!

Because they were led up the garden path about WMD by that lying, devious piece if crap that lives in the White House. Now that people are aware of the FACTS and the military death toll that continues to rise alarmingly, the support for Bush's militarily induced civil war is dwindling rapidly!

Most aren't against the war. Only most from whom you hear.
If you listen to the media, you only get one side of the story. They go out of their way to find the one dissident in every place they go so they can expound on his tale of woe. Most people, when things are going okay in their opinions, don't say anything. You only usually hear from people when the chips are down.
Think about it. How many of the people you know only talk to you when they complain and want your pity?
I'm still for the war. I have plenty of 4F friends who'd be there too if Uncle Sam would let them.
