Is their anything i should know or anything that is in need to know? i have absolutely no idea what i'm doing and it would be helpful if i had some advice from somebody who has gauges.

Either do it gradually on your own or go to a professional and get pierced with a larger gauge needle. I just went to Hot Topic and bought some 14s and stuck them in. It pulled a little, but 14s are still pretty small. I'm at 12s now and I don't think I'm going any bigger.

i have gaged ears myself even though I'm only a 14 I say it depends on what size you want to get to. If you want to jump a lot of sizes like from the regular size 20 to 8 or something do it gradually otherwise its painful. If you want to only go down 1 or 2 sizes just do it yourself. That doesn't cause pain at all.
