I was 11 and I remember it clearly. One ear lobe got infected and I spent most of my middle school years wearing one hoop earing like a freaking gypsy cuz I was scared to get the ear re-pierced.
I got my daughter's ears pierced when she was 8 weeks old. No problems and no trauma....

When I was a little girl, 8 or 9 years old, I asked my dad, who said that I had to wait until I turned 14 years old. Well, my dad died when I was 11 years old, but no matter how we begged or pleaded, Mom would not fold.
So the day I turned 14 years old, my Mom gave me the money to get my ears pierced. Well, my sister, who was only one year younger, pouted and moped around, and my Mom asked me if she could get her ears pierced too.
I was really angry at my sister and my mom for putting me in the position of having to say no, and be "mean" or say yes and give my sister something no one else was willing to give me.

I was 5. I cried so much on the 1st ear that they almost did not pierce the 2ND ear. It would have been a great idea if my parents would have done it while I was still a baby.

When I was a baby... I don't remember it so I can't say exactly when. Here in the Philippines, it's not exactly a custom, but a lot of girls get their ears pierced early in life.
