It always seems like you're one or the other - you figure out what you want and you get it, or you decide from the beginning that education just isn't your thing.
I like going to school, I want to get a degree and have an ambitious career and travel the whole world with the money I make...
But I'm always hit by this wave of not wanting to study or go to school anymore. I still go to work and do my own thing, but I get such an aversion to my studies that... well, my transcript just doesn't look pretty.
I'm tired of letting my family down, and more tired of letting myself down. I'm 22, at a community college and I don't know what's wrong with me. I'm a normal, attractive and smart young girl who spends most of her time on her laptop wasting the time she could be spending on school. It's not that I don't have the ability, I just keep losing my drive.

I'm surrounded by people who are one or the other. I need people who are stuck in the middle like me. Do you have advice? I need help.

First question I would ask is, can you relate to your chosen field of study? If you are going thru the motions to please your parents and friends, then you are going to be distracted. What are your favorite activities and hobbies? Is there a field that is related to them. Making money and traveling the world is nice, but that takes a commitment to studying certain fields. Maybe you can set goals to get there. One semester of the harder stuff followed by a fun semester. Are you good at tests? See if your college accepts CLEP tests for credits. CLEP stands for College Level Examination Program. It is a battery of 5 core group tests that are worth up to 6 credits each. Think math, english, social science, etc. Or take a semester off, save your money, and go somewhere. Join Americorp or the Peace Corp for your semester off. Americorp has a program where you give them a year and they turn around and give you money towards college. You then would spend a year helping others and have some good memories too! Good luck

I have the same problem but I am 27. I work full time so by the time I get home I do not feel like studying or going to class. But if I continue with being the way I am than I am not going to be able to achieve the career I want or the money to travel, etc..

Just think you might be content with the amount of money you make now or the money you could make at a job that does not require a degree, some people are able to make tons of money with a degree, but if you are one that does not make that much money, in 10 or 20 or 30 years from now, will your income increase much or is it going to be relatively the same, will it be enough to maintain or enhance your life style, or will you just be barely making it, some jobs has a cap as to how much you can make, so do you want a job with an income cap or do you want something that has the potential to gain more money

find out what motivates you.......... like for instance for me it is the money........

I would like to make more more so when I have kids I can be able to take them places and do things for them that my parents were not able to do with me because of lack of funds.

I will also be able to save up for my kids colleges, put extra funds into 401k or IRA for the future, and might save up enough to retire younger than the average

now if I only could listen to my own advice ;-)

the only place you can find motivation is
drum roll please

inside yourself.

MAD cheesy i know, but Ive been through college, didn't make it all the way (couldn't find the motivation to study), had a few jobs, started a career and two companies. I'm 22, Ive been around the world, and Ive found the only thing that can keep my attention, that can keep me motivated derives from the story i want my life to tell. its not the easiest way, not the clearest way, but i want a lot out of life, and there are many ways to get it.

May I suggest going to a homeless shelter and volunteering an hr or so a wk? It will not only motivate you but it can also be good on a resume. Whatever your going to school for volunteer for that position. Also you can meet alot of great people there, I'm not kidding talk to the people who volunteer there and you will find a network of people who can help motivate you to finish school.. Good Luck!!

Do you like the subject you are studying? Is it relevant to you?

Try some positive affirmations and put them in a place where you can see them and tell yourself of all the benefits that your study and hard work now will give you.
