Did you ask this twice? Here's what I wrote for the other one. Sorry to cut and paste (I'm new and a point junkie!) We're expecting our first child in a few months, so as you can imagine, we've been getting gifts left and right. I've already had one "official" baby shower with my husband's family, and I got lots of gifts I plan to return and only a few I could use (I hope none of them read this!).
However, I have to say that there were three gifts that really stood out. technically, I guess it was one gift. They came from my hubby's super fun sister, Emily. Since this is our first child (and a boy!), you can imagine how thrilled my husband is. But he was complaining that he felt left out since all the gifts so far have been for the baby (oh, and one for me from my aunt).
anyway, Emily gave us a little gift basket with a t-shirt for each of us. The one for my husband was so funny and says I'm Drinking for Two. He wears it all the time to work out. I think he was thrilled to even get a gift!
Mine has these pregnancy "no nos" (my sis-in-law knows I'm dying for some sushi and a glass of wine!). The t-shirt for our son says Baby McDreamy, bring me a bottle STAT. I'm a big 'Grey's Anatomy' fan.
These gifts had the entire party cracking up and we all wanted to know where she got them. She said she ordered them off Cafepress. I went and checked it out, and they have some really unique, funny and great items for baby, me, my husband. I ended up ordering a few more things, because they were just too funny. Of course, if this ends up being a girl, then we're in trouble, but I don't think that's going to happen.
I have been recommending this Cafepress site to everyone I know because I haven't seen anything like it. And you have so mnay choices. It certainly beats the boring, cutesy stuff. Trust me, the new parents will get PLENTY of that!

Just some suggestions:
A girl themed scrapbook, with pages completed and ready for photos to be inserted.
A hand/foot print making kit or ceramic mold kit (you can buy these at a craft store or at that huge discount place that stays open 24/7 in their baby section).
A basket full of themed goodies - like Winnie Pooh books, dolls and accessories.
If you're into handmaking things and can sew, ribbon blankies are great - use 2 pieces of baby themed fleece, sew ribbons around the outside and and sew the two pieces together. Babies love the 'silky' feel of the ribbon.
If you know the baby's name, you can personalize any item and it will make it that much more special.

Baby shower gifts do not have to be unique. The most useful things for new parents are diapers and clothing. At my sister-in-law's baby shower someone used rolled up diapers to make what looked like a cake. It turned out really cute and she had extra diapers to use for her new baby. I remember being so thrilled at my shower to get things I could actually do. Maybe you could make a gift basket with all of the necessities like diaper rash cream, baby wipes, shampoo, lotion, etc.

My answer is similar to shauna`s, only get a round plastic laundry basket, one with fairly large open grooves and weave pink ribbon around the basket, Fill with a pkg. of diapers, baby powder, oil, lotion, q-tips, soap, diaper rash oint. baby bottles, even jars of baby food and cereal. Wrap each in pink tissue paper
and the basket is full of useful things. I`m sure u can find many more small, but necessary things of ur own choosing, that even if duplicated will still be needed.

My fave gift was....Diapers! Really! Unique? Get the new mommy a pedicure. A massage. A somethingjustformomsneeds gift.
