I need to buy a set of cordless tools. My Costco carries both the Makita and the Dewalt. If price is not the issue since they cost around the same, which one would you pick?

I have used the DeWalt set up and Have recently picked up the Makita LXT 7 piece kit. Just before I got the Makita kit I used the Rigid 18v set up for about 2 years. I have been pleased with the makita set so far. The batteries seem to last a little longer, and even as dumb as I thought the little lights on them are, they do actually help sometimes. I like the multiple settings on the drill, no thumb held safety on the sawzall, as well as the blade holder holds itself open until you stick another blade in. The tools also have hoks that make it easy to hang it on something when not in use, like when Im climbing in the rafters. About the only drawbacks Ive noticed are that the grinder needs a pretty full battery to use realistically, (when thery are weak the motor cuts out), and the charger is a typical one hour recharge. I might be just missing my Rigid two bay quick charger. So Plan on getting a couple extra batteries if you plan to use them alot. Waiting for batteries to charge sucks! Overall I would pick the Makita over the DeWalt set up. Its seem to do damn near anything I have used it for and its a solid feeling set verses the Dewalt.

well, mostly, it comes down to which one you like better, for the most part. The only thing to consider is that parts and accessories such as extra batteries and so forth are more readily available nearly everywhere for the DeWalt.
